Nowadays, a news app plays an increasingly important role to provide information to people as news is increasingly accessed on smartphones. Hence, the quality of news app have received increasing attention for better interaction. This study is thusly intended to redesign and evaluate the usability of Batamnews, a news app developed by PT. Batam Media Siber. Particularly, the user-centered perspective is integrated to evaluate and improve the public experience of the news app. A user-centered evaluation approach using user survey was deployed to examine the design problems of Batamnews App. Based on the pain points in usability and aesthetics identified, an improved app design was generated. To validate the design quality of the new App, user tests were conducted, and it showed that the improved design can achieve better performance.
