Abstract

The term Block chain reminds of the Cryptocurrency “Bitcoin”. Block chain technology has unwinded its wings towards the development of smart cities. Cities across the world are getting modified and accepting the new trends day by day, which acclaims to reap the benefits of this technology across various sectors like infrastructute, transport services, safety mechanisms, health care, education, waste management, enegy generation through Solar devices. The e-solution to the pending problems of the city and offering the finest services shall be its sole goal, that includes detailed framework and procedures to opertionalize the impact of the technology.  This technology promotes the development of smart cities through auditability, transperancy, immutability and decentralisation.

The chapter focuses on the contribution of blockchain technology in the development of smart cities along with its issues and challenges. Identification of application areas for implication of blockchain technology for smartization of cities in various sectors like Education, Transport and mobility, Medical and Healthcare, Waste and dump management, Energy generation, logistics and supply chain management, Industry management and Infrastructure management is mentioned. It shall depict the current prepositions in this sectors and how adding up the blockchain technology shall improvise the concept the smart cities development along with solving the security issues.
