Abstract

Movie like literature as a popular culture product becomes the vessel of its qualities and a medium of expression. One of the most popular movie genres of today is “Science-fiction” and, Monster-verse is on top of its game. Monster-verse is a fictional universe centered on series of monster movies such as: Godzilla (2014), Kong: the skull island (2017), Godzilla King of the Monster (2019) and Godzilla vs Kong (2021). The movies expose one common issues “environment”. The “Titan” refers to Godzilla, Kong, Mothra etc rise against the nature imbalance caused by human. Human becomes the alpha predators for millions of year, forgot about co-existing instead destroying the world. Humans made innovation with no intention to save the world but to keep the position as the paramount predators. Using eco-criticism and Christian Metz’s Semiotic theories and conducted under the sub-themes of language and media. This research exposing Hollywood messages about environmental issues and how human becomes the center of the problem. Interpret the codes, sign, and symbols from the object materials this research exposed that “Titan” in the monster-verse rises against natural imbalance and corresponds to human error.
