Abstract

As a result of the current pandemic outbreaks, the teaching and learning process is now conducted entirely online. For their students, every lecturer must locate the appropriate Artificial Intelligence (AI). Therefore, this study investigates the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the perceptions of higher education students in English classes during online learning. The sample of this qualitative research included two English classes: one from an Islamic university in Salatiga and one from a private university in Solo. Each class has approximately 30 students. The data was collected using Google forms from each meeting contained the online class students' understandings, comments and suggestions. Inductive content analysis was used to examine the data. The findings show that, despite the fact that the Covid-19 pandemic had negative effects for online students in English lectures, such as the problem of poor signal and the requirement that they be endlessly in front of their gadgets, they appear to be able to understand the material. They, too, had a good time in the online English class since the lecturer or presenters in the WhatsApp Group included fun quizzes, games, puzzles, and other enjoyable activities that can help them avoid boredom during online lectures. They can also learn proper pronunciation by using Google Meet and WhatsApp Voice Note. To be sure, lecturers and students face numerous challenges throughout the process. They also advise being creative in the classroom and livening up the atmosphere, even if it is held online due to the massive pandemic.
