Examining Parents’ Supports toward Children’s English Language Achievement

Abstract


The role of parents is notably required to provide supports for their children learning including the supports for their children learning English and its achievement. This study, therefore, aims to explore parents’ supports provided for their children in learning English language and its achievement. The formulation of the problem of this study is focused on how parents provide support for their children’s English Achievement. In analyzing the data, the researcher used a qualitative case study which emphasizing on describing the types, roles, and supports of parents in an effort to improve their children learning and their English achievement. To collect data, the researcher conducted interviews with 5 pairs consisting of students of junior high school and their parents to get the information and understand from the list of English scores which students had been achieved from the school. From this research the researcher found two key findings. 1) Parents often help their children to solve the problems when learning English either spoken or written form such as meaning of words, grammar, and English pronunciation. 2) Parents' support is also extended to emotional, educational and financial supports.
