Abstract


The purposes of this study are to determine student’s knowledge about the types of online learning using synchronous and asynchronous methods, to describe the types of platforms used, to find out the method and application that to be most effective in online learning, to explain the obstacles faced by the students when they were learning online., to describe the advantages and disadvantages of online learning, to explain the perception and the impact on online learning for the students. This study used a quantitative approach. Data was collected through a google form questionnaire which was distributed to a proportionally randomly selected sample. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics while data analysis that required comparisons between samples was carried out using a T test to determine the significance of the differences between the samples. The respondents from this study were 117 students consisting of 73 respondents and 44 regular undergraduate students in Semester III and V with 44 people taking the sample using proportional random sampling technique. The results of this study are that most students have already known or they are familiar with synchronous and asynchronous learning methods, the zoom application is very popular and is followed by the google meet application as online learning, the obstacles faced by respondents when learning online include signal interference or internet connection, quota fees internet, difficulty concentrating, feeling bored and being lazy. There is no significant difference regarding the perception of English language skills with synchronous and asynchronous learning methods between two different campuses.
