Abstract

This paper aims at analyzing the territory boundaries, space and time that provide strong impression in the novel of Robinson Crusoe and Life of Pi through Postcolonial Perspective. Both of these novels were born from the same idea, namely "castaway" due to shipwrecked. Nevertheless, these two novels were produced in two different period of centuries. Robinson Crusoe was produced in the eighteenth century, while Life of Pi was produced in the twenty-first century. Bringing certain same idea of castaway does not mean to produce a similar narration. The strength of the depiction of territorial boundaries, space and time in these two novels are so detailed, but both still have differences. Robinson Crusoe story heavily show the characters who plays as the master and the slave emphasizing the border. On the contrary, The Life of Pi shows the borders of territory, space and time are vague because they are always in a contested situation so that who the master and the slave is in the characterization also in contestation.
