Mapping The Argumentation in The Discourse of National Language Education Policy in Indonesia

Abstract


This research contributes to an understanding of discourse of national language policy in Indonesia. It is in the intersection of various issues such as curriculum, ethnographic research, legislation, the language users. This research identifies the layers of language policy towards local language, national language and foreign language as well as the challenges of the policy. Employing Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and Lasswell’s communication model, this researches analyzed the corpus of articles from the Indonesian English media (2005 – 2022).  The finding has identified actors and arguments on national language education policy in Indonesia. It implied that government has play active roles in preserving local languages, embracing Indonesian languages, as well as giving place for international languages.
