Abstract

The term of ‘machismo’ originated from Chicano culture refers to Chicano men.  Chicano people existence were from the migration of Mexicans to America. Migration had actually been begun with the moving of the border between Mexico and the U.S. For this reason, the presence of a group of people forms a new identity, including a form of machismo for Chicano men. Thus, this study aims to analyze the representation of ‘machismo’ in Chicano men in Alberto Urrea’s The House of Broken Angels (2018). To analyze that, this study employed Bacca Zinn theory to excavate the meaning of machismo in Chicano men and Stuart Hall’s representation theories. Further, the study applied descriptive qualitative research by using library research method. The data were narrations and dialogues from the novel The House of Broken Angels (2018). At the end of this study, The House of Broken Angels (2018) by Luis Alberto Urrea represents Chicano machismo to Chicano men which is originated from traditional Mexican men.
