Abstract

In this paper, we discuss the experience in utilizing portfolio task with “Ublapps” in hybrid learning of forensic linguistics during the post-pandemic of Covid-19 at the English Education Department, Universitas Bandar Lampung (UBL). Ublapps is an application developed and implemented by the Management Information System Unit UBL for services to students in supporting academic and online learning activities. We focus on the experience of the students (n = 62) who took the course of forensic linguistics. In the course, they learn the scientific study of language and its application in the legal context. The students were assigned to write the portfolio tasks using the application aiming at strengthening their ability to make their own learning visible. The assignments were of a self-reflective nature where the students were asked to relate their own learning to the course content and to identify its application areas. The students received during the semester individual feedback from the lecturer. The intention with the feedback was to guide and encourage students to take a personal approach to the course content. We highlight that portfolio strategies can be well aligned in enhancing the lifelong learning and independence of students by leveraging work with intended portfolio assignments. The students’ experience using the application in hybrid learning of forensic linguistics shows that portfolio work can contribute to strengthening not only their scientific competence in forensic linguistics but also their personal development, self-control and self-discipline with the application.
