Abstract


The increasing use of the internet among students to fulfill the needs of learning, recreation, entertainment, and various other forms of electronic services was also followed by an increase in the risk of threats. As individuals, students are exposed to cyber security risks that can pose threats to personal data, identity, and privacy. This paper reports the results of a study aimed to investigate cybersecurity awareness among pre-service elementary school teacher students in Indonesia. An online survey were deployed administer the data collection. A well-structured questionnaire consisting various questions was prepared to collect data of students’ awareness cybersecurity and their overall perceptions of  privacy, two-factor authentication (2FA), identity theft, ransomware, passwords, mobile phone protection, Internet cookies, and social media. The targeted respondents were selected from second years students of pre-service elementary school teacher program. The results of the study revealed that majority of students have low level of security awareness. Most of respondents did not demonstrate enough secure behaviour when using internet. The key contribution of this paper is to emphasise the necessity to improve cybersecurity awareness among students, and increase their knowledge to understand cyber risks and threads.
