Academic staffs come from different backgrounds with different English proficiency levels. In university, they have to be capable to communicate with foreign clients, such as students and professors from abroad. To cater to this need, UGM provide a special English course to train their academic staffs. This study aims to find out how the English course is able to boost their confidence level, especially related to their professional practice. This qualitative study uses survey enriched by in-depth interview to gather the data. The data were then coded and analysed to meet the objective. The result is expected to show that the course is beneficial for academic staffs’ career.
