Abstract
This research aims to analyze the existence of racial profiling in novel. The novel chosen is a novel by Nic Stone entitled Dear Martin. The unsettling cases related to race and racism urged the researcher to conduct a research about the racial issue, specifically racial profiling. Racial profiling is committed and used as the basis for suspicion in directing discretionary law enforcement actions such as stops, identity checks, questioning, or searchers a person based on their race. Simply, it is defined as the behavior of the police that initiated traffic stops by using race or skin color as the indicator. The novel Dear Martin is chosen considering the plot story of the novel that told a story about African-American teenager named Justyce McAllister. The story told about McAllister problem with a white people. Thus, the researcher wants to analyze the existence of racial profiling in the novel. To conduct the analysis, descriptive qualitative method is used. The method is used as this research considered as textual analysis. Sociological criticism approach and racial profiling theories also used in this research to help the researcher conduct the analysis. It aims to see what kind of racial profiling faced by Justyce McAllister. By conducting the analysis, the researcher could find that the novel Dear Martin contained the material of racial profiling as seen through the main character, Justyce McAllister.
