Abstract
This study aims to improve students' speaking skills through role-playing in Class VIII SMPS Perintis Bandarlampung. In this study, the researcher applies role-playing techniques to improve speaking abilities. A total of 31 students participated in this study. This method of investigation is the design of pre-test and post-test for the group. Speaking ability data was obtained by assessing each pre-test and post-test, given by considering five aspects: content, fluency, pronunciation, grammar, and gestures with each assessment weight. During each cycle from initial treatment to post-test, students can regularly improve their speaking skills through role-playing. Based on these findings, some students are unable to pronounce and speak fluently because of problems with their mother tongue that are difficult to overcome. They began to improve their speaking skills in each cycle through post-testing by practicing and exploring each given situation. In summary, role-playing games help students improve their speaking skills.
