Abstract

Abstract

The development of social media encourages people to freely convey their ideas about a certain issue and it can represent the certain meaning of social conditions through language use. Thus, this research aims to analyze the types of language features used by female and male netizens in Trump’s Instagram post and reveal its meaning. This research applies the descriptive qualitative method to library research which the data are in the form of written text. The primary data source is from Trump's Instagram posts from 5th until 6th January 2021. This research uses the language features theory by Lakoff and the semantics approach by Geoffrey Leech. The findings reveal that the most frequent language features used by females are hypercorrect grammar, super polite forms and emphatic stress which mean to show their satisfaction with Trump's leadership. Meanwhile, the most frequent language features used by males are emphatic stress, insults, and commands which mean to show their disappointment towards Trump's leadership.
