Abstract
This article aims to explain the representation of Lombok in traditional Sasak expressions. This article seeks to construct the meaning of Lombok in the context of Sasak language and literature. Sasak language and literature in the noble Sasak literature represents Lombok as part of Javanese literature. This article contributes to the study of Sasak language and literature. In Sasak literature, Lombok is represented as a subculture of Java and Bali. To explain the representation of Lombok in the study of Sasak language and literature, this article uses representation theory. Representation theory assumes that reality is not a presentation of reality, but a representation of reality. Representation is defined as the production of meaning through language. The data in this article is the Sasak language in traditional Sasak expressions contained in the book Traditional Expressions as a Source of Information on the Culture of the West Nusa Tenggara Region published by the Ministry of Education and Culture in 1984. This article shows that Lombok is described as traditional. The tradition described in the expression is not rich, hard, open-minded, selfless, and calm. Tradition can be distinguished from modernity which shows the concepts of wealth, peace, self-interest, restlessness.
