Abstract

Ancient manuscripts are one of the historical relics that must be preserved. Along with the development of science, the field of critical discourse analysis is increasingly in demand. But unfortunately ancient manuscripts are still rarely studied in this field of science. Therefore, this study aims to present a critical discourse analysis study on ancient manuscripts, namely the Hukum Adat Tanah Bima (HATB) manuscript belonging to the Bima (Mbojo) local community in the province of West Nusa Tenggara. The presentation was delivered descriptively using Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis Method. The research data is in the form of quotations from verses in the HATB text. Data collected by Document Analysis Method. At the data analysis stage, Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis Model is used by practicing all the structural elements. The steps of data analysis activities utilize interactive analysis according to Miles and Huberman. Furthermore, the data is presented with Formal and Informal Methods. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be seen that Fairclough divides discourse analysis into three dimensions. Based on the text analysis, it was identified that the archaic language dominated the text and the use of the phrase As again became the main link between sentences. Based on the analysis of discourse practice, the script was produced by the government of the Sultanate of Bima and consumed by the people of Bima based on the principle of the people, by the people, and for the people.HATB sociocultural practice text is based on customary law and religious law in order to maintain the balance of life between indigenous peoples (government) and the people.
