Abstract


This study aims to describe how the implementation of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) through social studies education courses in Primary School Teacher Education, Medan State University. The research method used is qualitative research, where in qualitative research the research instrument is the researcher himself. Data collection techniques used include interviews, observation, documentation and learning outcomes. This research was conducted at the Primary School Teacher Education, Medan State University for the fifth semester Primary School Teacher Education students. In this study, the validity of the triangulation data was used. The results of the study indicate that the application of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in social studies education courses at primary school teacher education at Medan state universities has been going well. It can be seen that the learning outcomes obtained by the students show that they are good at higher-order thinking by giving clear answers and following the procedures for working on the questions well. But there are 10 students who have difficulty in developing the skills of analyzing, evaluating and innovating. This activity is carried out by identifying problems at the beginning of learning, evaluating learning by selecting the best solution that will be determined by each group and solving problems in learning by bringing up an innovation to perfect the solution into a better solution.
