Abstract
Online learning has been popular among teachers, students, and parents in education sector in the past two years as a preventive action on the spread of Covid-19 virus. One of basic interactive model used in online learning is a synchronous learning. Zoom Meeting platform is one of synchronous online learning media used to accommodate a face-to-face online learning between teachers and students. This research is aimed at identifying students’ perceptions on the use of Zoom meeting platform in EFL classroom setting in Indonesia as well as the challenges. This research is adopting qualitative design specifically case study method. A number of 215 students were involved in this research as participants. Data were collected through questionnaires and semi-structured interview. Then, data were analysed based on Interactive Model analysis by Miles, Huberman &Saldaña (2014). The results revealed that students show both positive and negative perceptions toward the use of Zoom Meeting. Zoom Meeting platforms accommodate students to listen teachers’ explanation, conduct presentation, and share opinion. Moreover, this platform provides some features that may lead students to become interactive and improve their performance. However, some students also experience bad internet connection, incompatible tools, and much expense on internet quota during synchronous learning using Zoom. The result of this research can provide insight on carrying out synchronous online learning using Zoom for better improvement on students’ achievement and performance. Meanwhile, facility on internet access in rural area needs to be well-developed as a solution to support new educational system.
