Abstract
Back in 2020, while still struggling with the digital divide, the education system in Indonesia was pushed into embracing online learning after the Covid 19 pandemic breakout. Digital literacy that supposedly becomes the basic knowledge for generations of digital citizenship is passed in equipping both teachers and students. While on progress in implementing online learning, the ethical issues that teachers and students face in online education are amplified. The research is based on Pavela’s framework of academic dishonesty (AD) types (i.e. cheating, plagiarism, fabrication, and facilitation) to evaluate the phenomenon of technology based AD in the online learning setting. This study used a qualitative approach with a literature review as a method. Primary data were sourced from journals, books, and other related sources. Interviews were also conducted as a supporting source. Since online learning participants are unaware of digital literacy, most students or teachers have no notion of information used on ethical issues with online education. Introduce the idea of digital ethics and netiquette can shape online behaviors. Implementing a set of rules on digital ethics will also create a critical responsibility in conducting online learning. The preservation of society’s values and cultural legacy as a responsible digital citizenship setting in an online learning environment will also help on preventing AD.
