Indonesian Teachers’ Challenges in Teaching English Using ICT during the Study from Home Period

Abstract


In today’s era of digitalization, the teaching-learning process cannot be separated from the growth and improvement of Information Communications and Technology (ICT). It is believed that ICT provides many advantages to the teachers; however, it would bring also challenges and barriers to the teachers. This paper aims to discuss the challenges in teaching English using ICT during the study from the home period. It describes how the teachers use ICT in the learning process as well as how they overcome the challenges during the study from home period. The paper employs the qualitative research aims to discuss the challenges of using ICT during the study from home. The data of this research gathered by using a questionnaire were distributed to the teachers in Indonesia. The finding of this research showed that the teachers’ challenges in teaching English using ICT are the creativity of choosing the material and approach, the skill of using ICT, the students’ awareness during online learning, the facility of the student, lack of support from school/university including internet data, the diversity of students’ condition, and students’ motivation.
