Abstract
Covid-19 pandemic has affected the education system in Indonesia. It changed the way of learning in all education levels from the lower level up to the higher education where the teaching and learning activities previously conducted with face-to-face meeting has shifted into a virtual meeting in the various online learning platform. This research aims to get an overview of the implementation of online learning in the mechanical engineer program at STTR Cepu as an effort to break the chain of Covid-19. Subject of the research is mechanical engineer students of STTR Cepu. This research method is a descriptive qualitative study. The data collected by giving a questionnaire as the instrument of the research. The finding shows that students already have basic facilities required in joining online learning, emergency remote learning encourages social behaviour distancing and minimizing student crowds to reduce the potential for the spread of Covid-19 in a higher education environment, and online learning has flexibility in its implementation and encourage the autonomous learning and motivation to be more active in learning. Adaptability, time management, lack of signal strength in remote areas, and expensive quota fees are the challenge in online learning. Increasing autonomous learning, interest and motivation, and expressing students’ ideas and questions are other advantages of online learning.
