Abstract

Abstract: Communication skills are one of the four skills that must be mastered in the 21st century. Graduates will have higher job and career opportunities if they have developed communication skills. In addition to communication skills, there are other aspects that are important for educators to pay attention to in the learning process, namely the cognitive learning outcomes of students. One way to realize the success of teaching and learning activities is by selecting the right learning model. Learning models that can foster students' communication skills and provide good cognitive learning outcomes, one of which is the Jigsaw type of cooperative learning model. Learning model that is centered on students, thus providing opportunities for students to be more active in learning.

The population in this study was all students of class X MIA 1 at Senior High School Al-Kautsar Bandar Lampung in the academic year of 2018/2019. The sample of this study was 32 students of class X MIA, selected through purposive sampling technique. This type of research is experimental research. The research design used One Group Pretest-Postest Design. The data on oral communication skills was obtained using self assessment and observation assessment sheets. Meanwhile, cognitive learning outcomes data was obtained through the value of pretest and posttest. The results showed that 94% of students had scores above the KKM with a posttest average value of 90, statistically the learning outcomes of students showed a significant difference between the initial understanding (pretest) and understanding after learning (posttest) indicated by the value of N – gain score is 0.73 with high criteria, and more than 75% of the total number of students have communication skills in the above category.
