Abstract

Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic hit, teachers all over the world must find new teaching tools to engage their students’ learning. One of these tools is the interactive online quizzes such as Kahoot and Quizizz. This research aims to find out how students perceive their experience using these online quizzes during the period of studying at home. A survey consisting of 12 questions was conducted to 149 students at Bina Nusantara University. The survey reveals various results, such as many of the students preferred a student-paced quiz (Quizizz) over instructor paced (Kahoot), how most of them preferred it just for fun and for self-improvement instead of it being a graded quiz/assignment. Surprisingly, the result also showed that many of the students also preferred it not to be competitive, which is contrary to the characteristics of Gen Z. The survey also revealed other issues such as the popularity of the online quiz among teachers, as well as how the online quiz became an activity that the students look forward to in every class. The overall findings of the research suggests that the interactive online quizzes like these should be used by teachers when teaching online as well as making it one of their primary tools in teaching.
