PRELIMINARY STUDY ON MAPPING CURRENT DOCUMENTATION AND REVITALIZATION MEASURES FOR LAMPUNGIC LANGUAGE

Abstract


Lampungic, a language spoken by people inhabiting southern tip of Sumatera Island Indonesia, is now in the level transition from safe to endangers due to lacking of intergenerational transmission, diglossia, and negative language attitude. There has been few study to see how far the documentation and revitalization take place for the language. This study attempts to map current language documentation and revitalization program for Lampungic language. Employing qualitative descriptive method, this study applies field observation and library research. Several important findings are noted. First, documentation of Lampungic language is done by government through language mapping and dictionary upgrade, academicians through their journal article for master and doctoral degree, by society through voluntary post on social media, software development and creative business. Second, Lampung language revitalization is currently conducted through lampung culture lesson from primary until secondary school, the composition of Lampungic books for students, and the selection of youth language and tourism ambassador. This research further analyzes the degree of strengths and weaknesses of each measure and concludes that there should be further practical measure implemented massively and structurally through participation of society as well.
