Abstract
The main problems found in one online classroom are bad character and lack of motivation in reading-- during the synchronous, it was found that a student was having a call with his friend. Also, some students failed to finish the reading tasks, and some did not read at all, they forgot to submit their assignments, late to attend the online class and they were late to submit their assignments. To fix those two issues, teachers worked hard to find suitable approaches to help the student to improve their character and motivation in reading. One of them is literature circles, it is a small discussion groups consist of students that have chosen to read the same poem, book; each member of the group has specific responsibilities during the discussion session. Descriptive research methodology was used to analyze this case. Thus, this research aims to describe the implementation of literature circles approaches in improving the students’ character and motivation in reading. The data were collected from the experience from pre-service teacher’s practicum in grade 11 in one of a private school in Indonesia for 6 weeks of online learning. Those data themselves are the internship portfolio that contains observation sheets, lesson plan sheets, teaching feedback sheets, student’s formative results, and reflection sheets. The result from the research shows that their literature circle approach works in improving students’ character and motivation in reading.
