Abstract
Abstract: This study is centered on exploring the teachers’ perspective towards translanguaging practices in EFL Classroom. This study is also conducted in order to examine the benefits of the translanguaging practices in EFL Classroom. This study is framed within qualitative case study which involving four English teachers from two different high schools in Sidoarjo, East Java as the subjects of the study. In order to understand the subjects’ perspective, personal interviews were utilized in this study. Having been collected, the data was transcribed in verbatim and analyzed thematically. The findings of the current study show that teachers practiced translanguaging particularly when they explained the materials such as grammar. In this sense, the sole motivation of using translanguaging is that grammar is difficult and explaining in English is far more difficult for the students. In addition, teachers also practiced translanguaging when they managed the classroom, showing shared cultural values. Further analysis showed that translanguaging helps teachers to achieve their goals and one of the goals is helping their students understand the materials explained in English better. The results of this study are expected to be advantageous for the teachers in order to be aware of the importance of translanguaging practices in EFL classroom.
