Teacher’s Belief and Attitudes towards Digital and Media Literacy as the 21st Century Skill

Abstract


In the era of digital riot and the requirement of student’s twenty-first century skills, digital and media literacy has gained a great deal of consideration from several countries, in particular, Indonesia as an EFL (English as a Foreign Language) country. This study aims at discovering whether digital and media literacy have reached the purpose in Indonesia education system, and investigating how the English teacher’s beliefs and attitudes towards this issue. By employing descriptive analytical methodology, the data instrument in this study was open-ended questionnaire distributed to four EFL teachers in different education level and institution. The result showed that (1) Indonesian EFL teachers had achieved the purpose of digital and media literacy in education, and (2) the teachers believed that digital and media literacy is important in achieving students’ twenty-first century skills.
