Abstract

Along the spread of the pandemic so-called Coronavirus, there were many alterations that influenced daily life and its diverse fields as education, economy, health and social spheres.  The most critical fact is that schools and educational contexts (i.e, universities) were closed and in order to fill this gap, government reverted to digital courseware. A leap from traditional classroom-based methods to technological or computer-based methods resulted in the emergence and application of e-learning through Moodle platform in the Algerian universities.  The platform represented a key contact among teachers and their students where they are only separated physically from their institution. The present study aims at identifying the main challenges of digital courseware in the Algerian universities and its impact on the students’ achievement. Questionnaires were administered to university students enrolled in different specialties from various provinces of Algeria (of about 58 provinces). The results revealed that Internet access was one of the main hurdles to digital learning and that students’ achievement was to some extent negatively influenced compared to their achievement prior to the pandemic. Digital courseware represented a key supporting tool for the Algerian universities as it established a virtual link between teachers and students and enriched the academic content.
