The aim of this study reveals the translation techniques used by translators in translating expressive speech acts and to explain the quality of the translation in terms of accuracy, acceptability, and readability in translating expressive speech acts in the Indonesian documentary film entitled “Indonesia: Diversity Under Threat”. The data of this study were gained from YouTube’s documentary movie, “Indonesia: Diversity Under Threat”, made by DW Documentary in 2021. This study uses qualitative method and in analyzing the data, the researchers employ a translation framework proposed by Molina Albir (2002), also applied the theory of translation quality by Nababan (2009). Furthermore, Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was applied to obtain the data of translation quality. The results of this study show that there are 256 utterances with 109 data containing of speech acts. Those are: Rage, Condemn, Motivated, Confidence, Criticize, Proud, Sad, Determined, Hopeful, Love, Hate, Gratitude, Respectful, Apologize, Respect, Disbelief, Like, Curious, Amazed, Worry, Happy, Relieved, Sorry.  From the movie, the translation of the subtitle was also being observed and it leads to 16 kinds of translation technique in the subtitle such as Adaptation, Amplification, Borrowing, Calque, Compensation, Description, Discursive Creation, Established Equivalent, Generalization, Literal Translation, Modulation, Particularization, Reduction, Substitution, Transposition, and Variation. After studying the movie’s subtitle, it can be seen that the translator has done such a good job. Therefore, from scale 1 to 3 (1: Bad, 2: Good, 3: Excellent), the quality of the English-Indonesian translation is 2 and the Indonesian-English translation is 3. Because the English-Indonesian translation felt stiff and the dictions in Indonesian made some sentences feel unrelatable. Meanwhile in Indonesian-English translation, the translators did a great job with the dictions and they were able to convey the messages from Indonesian to English successfully.
